Windows seems to be a tough nut to crack for Claude.ai. Looks like it’s mainly due to the fact that Claude can’t test the software in a Windows environment itself. It is making assumptions based on information it has in its model or information it finds online but it hasn’t been enough to make the software work. Whereas Linux is Claude’s native environment and it can test builds from here to Sunday.
I spent several hours last Friday going through many iterations of the Transcriber to get it to work on my Windows 11 Dell XPS 13 laptop. The transcriber sort-of installs but doesn’t completely. It bails out at some point. You can run the program but it doesn’t have everything it needs to do a transcription.
I let this sit over the weekend and had Claude start from scratch. Right now it’s trying to work its magic based on the Linux install but using Windows Powershell instead of just a .bat file to handle the entire process. I will post here as I continue to test the Windows version of the Transcriber.
I wonder if I’ll have the same problem with the Mac. Maybe not because at least the Mac is built on a common Unix heritage to Linux and Linux is where the Transcriber works like a charm.
